The Shoreham footbridge is set to close for a day next week for repairs to its northern hinge.
The damage was discovered during Storm Bert last weekend – but some residents said they had noticed it in the days before that.
Shuttle buses will be put on during the day to help people get from one side of the Adur to the other.
A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “Essential maintenance work to adjust the northern hinge of the Adur Ferry Bridge will be carried out on Tuesday 3 December.
“It will be necessary to close the bridge to carry out the work. To avoid inconvenience to residents we will provide a shuttle bus between Riverside Drive and Coronation Green between 7.30am and 4.30pm.”
Councillor Joss Loader, who represents Marine ward, said: “It’s good news that they are carrying out the essential maintenance so quickly and that shuttle buses will be running.
“The Adur Ferry Bridge is an essential link between Shoreham Beach and the town for both walkers and cyclists and is used by hundreds of people daily.”
