The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for a wide area of Sussex today (Wednesday 22 May) particularly along the coast and the South Downs.
Up to an inch and a half or about 40mm of rain could fall and possibly some hail with road spray and flash flooding possible.
The official forecaster issued the warning for an 11-hour period from about 8am to about 7pm and said: “Scattered showers and thunderstorms may lead to some disruption.
“While many places will remain dry, scattered showers are expected through Wednesday.
“Where these develop, they are likely to be heavy at times, with a risk of hail and thunder.
“A few places may see 10mm to 20mm in one hour and perhaps 30mm to 40mm in two to three hours.”
The Met Office urged drivers to take care.
