A pensioner has been charged with murder after the body of an 84-year-old woman was found in her home at the weekend.
Sussex Police said that 78-year-old Michael Pyke was due in court today (Wednesday 3 June) charged with the murder of Beryl Pyke.
The force said: “A man has been charged after an 84-year-old woman was found deceased in her home.
“On Sunday (31 May) at around 2pm, emergency services attended Langley Grove, in Aldwick, after welfare concerns were raised for a resident inside an address.”
When officers entered the property, they found Mrs Pyke dead, having suffered serious injuries.
Her next of kin have been informed.
Michael Pyke, a British national, of Langley Grove, Aldwick, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with murder.
He is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court today.
Detective Superintendent Colin Garman said: “Following such a significant and tragic incident, an investigation remains well under way.
“Officers continue to carry out a number of inquiries at the address and in the surrounding area and an increased police presence will remain visible at this time.
“We recognise the impact this incident has had on the local community and thank residents for their patience and support as the investigation progresses.
“Anyone who may have information that could assist police inquiries is asked to come forward and speak to us.”
