A man has been jailed for stalking the Chief Constable of Sussex and made the subject of an indefinite restraining order.

Jason Nicholls, 55, was sentenced to 15 weeks in prison after a persistent and prolonged campaign on social media as well as by email and phone.

He created a wanted poster, featuring a photograph of Jo Shiner, the senior officer in Sussex Police, accusing her of crimes against policing.

Nicholls, who lives on the Isle of Wight, also created a fake Twitter account in her name and posted a catalogue of pictures, videos and other online abuse.

He pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to stalking the police chief from October 2022 to August 2024.

The defendant also admitted two charges of breaching his bail conditions after emailing police.

He made false claims of corruption and other wrongdoing and sent the chief constable abusive messages, Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court was told.

Nicholls, of Grange Road, East Cowes, had shown a flagrant disregard for previous court orders as well as people and their property, the court was also told.

At a hearing last year, Nicholls said that he was addicted to social media and apologised to Chief Constable Shiner.
