A man is in prison awaiting sentence for repeatedly raping and abusing a woman over five years.
Mark Holden, 27, was convicted by a jury at Hove Crown Court and remanded in custody by Judge Christine Henson.
Sussex Police said today (Wednesday 27 May): “Worthing man Mark Holden has been convicted of multiple rapes and abusive offences against a woman over several years.
“In August 2021, Sussex Police received a report from a woman in her twenties that Holden had raped her repeatedly over a five-year period while using financial control and intimidation to control her behaviour.
“She said Holden forced her to complete sex acts in return for money or food and would make her dress as a child – including wearing a large nappy – for his own gratification.
“He also forced the victim into having sex with one of his male friends.
“After Holden’s offending was reported to Sussex Police, the victim was safeguarded and given support by specialist officers.
“Holden, 27, of was further arrested when officers found digital devices containing 55 prohibited images of children in his property.
“He was subsequently charged with four counts of rape and one count each of coercive and controlling behaviour and possession of prohibited images of children.
“Further indictments were added at court covering offences of sexual assault and sexual assault by penetration.
“At Hove Crown Court on Friday (22 May), Holden was found guilty of five counts of rape, sexual assault, sexual assault by penetration and controlling and coercive behaviour.
“He also pleaded guilty to possession of 55 prohibited images of children.
“He was remanded in custody, to appear at Hove Crown Court on Friday 11 September for sentencing.”
Detective Constable Owen Watkins said: “Mark Holden subjected the victim in this investigation to years of abuse.
“I know how much resolve it takes for victims to support investigations such as these through to conclusion.
“Thanks to her strength, a man who once tried to control so much of her life has been brought to justice and faces a significant jail sentence.”
Sussex Police added: “If you are a victim of sexual offending or abuse, please report it to Sussex Police online or via 101.
“Always dial 999 in an emergency. We will support you and do all we can to get you the justice you deserve.”
