A detective has been suspended after being arrested on suspicion of drink driving, Sussex Police said.
The force said: “A Sussex Police officer has been charged with off-duty driving offences in Crawley.
“Police were called to a report of a single-vehicle collision at the Ridley’s Corner Roundabout, in Crawley, at around 12.55am on Tuesday (19 May).
“The vehicle was found abandoned but inquiries traced its owner to his home address.
“Connor Farrell, 23, a learner Detective Constable, based on West Sussex division, was arrested at around 2am after failing a breathalyser test.
“He was subsequently charged with driving while over the prescribed limit and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
“He has been released on conditional bail pending an appearance at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 16 July.
“Farrell has been suspended from duty and the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed as is standard procedure.”
