A serial shoplifter has been jailed for stealing goods worth more than £2,000 in breach of a court order made after similar previous offences.

Sussex Police said: “A 39-year-old woman has been jailed for 12 months for prolific shoplifting in Worthing.

“Karlie Everson, 39, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Friday 8 May.

“During her roughly four-month spree between 17 November 2025 and Thursday 7 May 2026, she stole over £2,200 worth of goods.

“Everson stole coffee, steak and other meat products, butter, cheese, washing up liquids, laundry items, often taking hundreds of pounds worth of goods at a time, including £412 worth of beauty gift sets on one occasion.

“She was arrested and charged on Thursday 7 May with 19 counts of theft from a shop and 19 counts of breaching a criminal behaviour order and remanded in custody.

“The next day (Friday 8 May) Everson appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court where she pleaded guilty to all offences.

“She was jailed for 12 months and ordered to pay £272 court costs.”

Sergeant Amelia Roberts said: “I’m pleased to see this prolific offender brought to justice.

“We will remain relentless in our efforts to tackle shoplifting, from catching offenders to working with businesses and partners to ensure community safety.”
