Three men have been charged with a number of burglaries and remanded in custody to await their next appearance in court.

Sussex Police said that the men were Craig Brown, 42, of Arthur Road, Ifield, Crawley, and Owen Ellis, 26, and Lee Gibson, 40, both of no fixed address.

All three are due back in court next month to answer separate charges of breaking into homes and businesses.

Sussex Police said: “Lee Gibson was arrested on Thursday 11 December on suspicion of three counts of burglary of a dwelling with intent to steal, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and breaking or being likely to break bail conditions and remanded into custody.

“He was swiftly charged at Brighton Magistrates’ Court the next day with the same offences and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday 9 January.

“Owen Ellis was arrested on Sunday 30 November on suspicion of two counts of theft from a shop and one count of burglary of a dwelling with intent to steal and was remanded in custody.

“The next day at Crawley Magistrates’ Court, after he was charged with the same offences, Ellis pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop. He pleaded not guilty to burglary on Tuesday 2 December at the same court.

“Ellis was remanded in custody pending his appearance at Portsmouth Crown Court for trial on Tuesday 6 January.

“Craig Brown was arrested on Sunday 9 November on suspicion of burglary of a dwelling with intent to steal. He was bailed pending further investigation.

“He was then subsequently arrested on Wednesday 26 November on suspicion of harassment putting in fear of violence and possession of a class A drug in connection with an incident at an address in Grasmere Court, Crawley, that day and was remanded into custody.

“Brown was charged with all three offences at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Friday 28 November and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 6 January.”
