A man who was jailed for 32 months for downloading details of how to mount a terrorist attack and images of beheadings is due back in court tomorrow (Thursday 18 December).
Counter Terrorism Policing South East said: “Zakaria Yanaouri, of Congreve Road, Worthing, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.”
Yanaouri is charged with two offences of failure to comply with a serious crime prevention order, contrary to section 25(1) of the Serious Crime Act 2007.
The police added: “He was also charged with two counts of failure to comply with notification of a periodic change requirement under Counter Terrorism Act 2008, contrary to section 54(1)(a) and (2) of the Counter Terrorism Act 2008.
“The 26-year-old, who was charged by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East on Sunday 23 November, was released on police bail ahead of tomorrow’s court appearance.”
He was jailed in November 2020 after pleading guilty to five counts of having documents containing information useful to terrorism.
At the Central Criminal Court, better known as the Old Bailey, in London, Judge Philip Katz said that Yanaouri was an extremist who had chosen to listen to “notorious terrorist loudmouths”.
Judge Katz rejected Yanaouri’s claim that he watched the materials only “out of curiosity”, adding that he had been brainwashed by the propaganda.
