Fire crews put out house fire in Peacehaven

A two-storey house on a golf course has been damaged in a blaze, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.

Four fire engines and a water carrier were sent to the property at Sweetwoods Golf Club, on the A264 Colestock Road, in Cowden, by the Kent and Sussex border early today.

The fire service said: “At 12.20am on Wednesday 28 May 2025, four appliances and a water carrier were mobilised to a fire at a property in Colestock Road, Cowden, Edenbridge.

“Nearby residents have been asked to close all windows and doors as well as avoid the area while crews work on getting the fire under control.

“At 2am firefighters remained at the incident using five jets, one light portable pump and three hose reels to tackle the fire.”

The fire service later issued an update, saying: “The incident was scaled back at 4am and a re-inspection of the scene is due to take place at 11.30am to doublecheck for any remaining hotspots at the property.

“The property was a two-storey house on a golf course.

“There are no reports of injuries.

“Power was isolated during the firefighting operation.

“The cause of the fire is being investigated.”
