A block of toilets damaged in an arson attack have reopened after a refurbishment.
The block in Roderick Avenue, Peacehaven, was closed for refurbishment after the fire in January this year.
Lewes District Council took the opportunity to install new disability support features and baby changing units – as well as improving security.
Councillor Wendy Maples, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Wellbeing, said: “These facilities have undergone a proper overhaul and are greatly improved.
“We understand how important clean and accessible public toilets are to our community and this refurbishment is part of our commitment to providing facilities that meet public needs.”
Outside, overhead lighting and new bicycle stands have been installed, and native wild thyme has been planted near the bike racks.
This area is a ‘test bed’ to see if low-maintenance native plants can be used to enhance, and in some cases, replace hardstanding to improve both appearance and drainage without increasing costs.
