Fire crews put out house fire in Peacehaven

Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of arson after a fire at the weekend.

The fire started in Twyford Road, Worthing, shortly after 12.30pm on Sunday (16 March).

Sussex Police said that a 55-year-old woman, from Durrington, was being held on suspicion of starting the blaze.

The force said that its investigation was continuing and appealed for witnesses, information and footage.

Anyone who could help the investigation was asked to call 101, quoting reference 468 of 16/03.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue said that a dozen people started calling 999 just after 12.40pm on Sunday 16 March to report a fire in Twyford Road, Durrington.

Six fire engines were sent to the scene, the fire service said, adding: “Upon arrival, crews were faced with a well-developed fire involving the ground floor and roof space of a bungalow.

“Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring properties.

“A joint investigation with Sussex Police is ongoing.

“Fire crews will shortly return to the area to carry out community fire safety activities.”
