Man jailed for window smashing spree

Inde Sneddon

A man has been jailed for 21 months for smashing a bus window and then stealing a metal motorbike chain to smash several car windows in a spree of destruction.

Inde Sneddon, 24, formerly of Albert Road, Bognor, was jailed at Portsmouth Crown Court last Thursday (13 February).

Sneddon was bitten by a police dog as he resisted arrest and he kicked the dog during the struggle to detain him.

Sussex Police said: “A man has been jailed for 21 months after wielding a metal motorcycle chain to smash numerous car windows in Bognor.

“Inde Sneddon, 24, of no fixed address, was sentenced when he appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on Thursday 13 February.

“He had been remanded in custody since Friday 20 December when he shouted homophobic abuse at a bus driver and smashed the bus window before stealing a motorcycle chain and smashing windows of a number of parked cars in the Nyewood Lane area.

“When police responded, he continued to wield the chain, threatening to kill a police officer and kicked a police dog.

“Sneddon was charged and pleaded guilty to 14 counts of criminal damage, resisting arrest, causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, theft from a motor vehicle, possession of an offensive weapon, threats to kill and a public order offence.”

PC Emma Lacey said: “We will not tolerate violent and anti-social behaviour. Inde Sneddon, who was drunk and aggressive, has since shown no remorse. I am pleased with the sentence he has been given.”

Just before Christmas, Detective Sergeant Dave Bulger said: “This incident caused a lot of trouble and we don’t underestimate the impact this will have had on each of the victims here and also the local community.

“I would like to thank all the victims and witnesses for their support in this matter as well as the hard work from all officers involved which meant we were able to quickly put Sneddon before the courts to answer for his actions.”

He added that he hoped that the result would “go some way to reassuring the public” and give them some peace of mind as Sneddon was brought to justice.
