A trial date has been set for a 15-year-old boy who has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking a couple with an axe as they slept.
The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, appeared by video link before Judge Christine Henson at Hove Crown Court this afternoon (Tuesday 11 February).
He is accused of attacking James and Sarah Woodcock with a wood axe as they slept at a house in Rowlands Road, Worthing, in the early hours of Monday 13 January.
A trial is due to start on Monday 7 July, with a High Court judge due to preside.
In the meantime, the case was adjourned until Friday 4 April.
The boy, who is currently detained, has yet to enter a plea.
At a hearing last month, Jeremy King, prosecuting, told Crawley Magistrates’ Court, that Mr Woodcock suffered several cuts to his face and the top of his head.
He had lost blood, a scan found that he had suffered a fractured skull and he had to have emergency surgery.
Mrs Woodcock suffered cuts to her face, the loss of part of her earlobe and leg injuries.
