Cyclist dies after being hit by car

A 67-year-old cyclist has died after being hit by a car on the A26 near Ringmer yesterday morning.

The local man was treated at the scene but was tragically declared deceased soon afterwards. His next of kin have been informed, and are being supported by specialist officers.

The driver of the blue VW Eos involved in the crash, at Upper Clayhill, near Banff Farm, at about 10.30am, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has been bailed, pending further enquiries.

Police today launched an appeal for witnesses and information, and want to speak to anyone who saw or who has footage of what happened.

Additionally, anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage of the vehicles in the area at the time is asked to come forward.

Information can be reported to Sussex Police online or by emailing: collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk and quoting Operation Horsforth.
