Fire crews were called out to reports of a pervasive smell of petrol coming up through a street’s drains.
The fire service said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has handed over the scene of an incident in Queen’s Road, Hastings.
“We were called at 10.47am on Friday 8 November to reports of a strong smell of petrol, possibly coming through drains. which was affecting five or six premises.
“Crews flushed the affected drain through with water after setting up cordons.
“Police assisted with a road closure.
“Water and gas companies were also in attendance.
“The Environment Agency was informed of the incident.
“As of 3.20pm the incident has been handed over to Southern Water.
“There are no reports of injuries.
“Thank you for your patience during this incident.”
