A police officer has appeared in court charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a crash involving his police car and an electric bike.
PC Timothy Bradshaw appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 4 April) to answer the charge after the crash in Hawthorn Road, Bognor, on Thursday 3 November 2022.
The ebike rider suffered a broken knee and a broken thigh bone when Bradshaw tried to stop the cyclist, the court was told.
District Judge David Robinson remanded Bradshaw, a Sussex Police officer, on bail to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on Tuesday 7 May.
After he was charged Sussex Police said: “A Sussex Police officer has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving relating to a collision in Bognor.
“PC Tim Bradshaw will appear before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 4 April.
“The charge relates to a collision involving a police car and an electric bike in Hawthorn Road on Thursday 3 November 2022.
“The matter was referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct who directed that a local investigation by Sussex Police should be conducted.
“The force will consider misconduct proceedings once the criminal proceedings have concluded.”
