Serious rail disruption in West Sussex today

A lorry has collided with a level crossing barriers in the Billingshurst area. Trains are running at a reduced speed through this area and the are delays.

Southern advises that passenger continue to use their normal route but suggest that rail users allow an extra time to complete the journey.

On Twitter/X Southern said: “Network Rail response teams are on site and specialist staff have been requested to attend.

“Trains are having to run at a reduced speed in the Billingshurst area, we’ve also had to reduce the number of trains running through this area until further notice.

“Trains that run between Horsham and Barnham may be delayed by up to 30 minutes in both directions.

“Services that run between London Victoria and Portsmouth/Southampton will instead run between London Victoria and Bognor Regis only. These services will no longer divide and attach at Horsham.

If you’re travelling to/from stations between Barnham and Portsmouth/Southampton, you’ll likely need to change trains en route at Barnham or you may wish to travel instead using an alternative route, for example via Hove.”
