A judge has set a date for the trial of a man charged with murder after a hit and run in Hailsham.

Kyle Dumble, 26, formerly of Bayham Road, Hailsham, was remanded in custody by Judge Christine Laing, the honorary recorder of Brighton and Hove, at Lewes Crown Court.

Dumble is charged with the murder of 24-year-old Jack Field in Western Road, by Diplocks Walk, on Saturday (18 November). Mr Field died after being hit by a car.

Dumble is due to enter a plea at a hearing on Thursday 25 January and face trial on Tuesday 28 May, with the trial expected to last 10 days.

He has also been charged with attempting grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and driving while disqualified.

A 32-year-old man, from Horam, was arrested on suspicion of murder and has been released on police bail for four weeks.

Mr Field’s family said: “Jack was a loving son, brother and friend.

“He was the most selfless, respectful gentleman who would do anything for anyone and always putting others before himself. He was everyone’s best friend, role model and hero.

“He will never be able to be replaced and has left a gaping hole which will never be filled but we will hold him in our hearts forever.

“Darling Jack, we love you so much. Goodbye for now baby boy.”

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell said: “We are continuing to work tirelessly to understand the exact circumstances of this incident and provide answers for Jack and his family.

“I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to them during this extremely difficult time.

“We are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or events leading up to it or anyone with pictures or footage that could help to contact police online or via 101, quoting Operation Novio.”

Anyone with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
