A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man charged with causing a public nuisance by throwing 10kg bags of salt off a balcony at Gatwick airport.
Ahmed Jamo, 30, of Taylor Road, Birmingham, was arrested at the airport on Sunday 21 June.
He was due to appear at Hove Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday 21 July) to be arraigned – or to have the charge formally put to him – but did not attend the hearing.
The court was told that Jamo was faced a charge of intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance, contrary to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022.
He was alleged to have thrown several 10kg bags of road salt from the upper terminal forecourt to the lower terminal forecourt where they landed on a pedestrian pavement.
It was alleged that he had put the public at risk of serious harm, either intentionally or recklessly, without reasonable excuse.
William Gatward, prosecuting, applied for a warrant for Jamo’s arrest. Andrew Stephens, defending, offered no grounds to oppose the application.
Judge Jeremy Gold issued a warrant for Jamo’s arrest, not backed for bail.
