A man and a woman have been arrested over what Sussex Police described as a “vehicle damage scam”.
The force said: “We’ve arrested two people in connection with a vehicle scam in the Worthing area.
“It follows multiple reports of elderly and vulnerable victims being targeted by a man and a woman who claim their vehicle has been hit.
“They take the victims’ details and provide a false quote for repairs, insisting they pay cash instead of submitting an insurance claim.
“Police have been made aware of this issue and have since arrested a 38-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man from Findon on suspicion of fraud by false representation.
“They have been bailed pending further inquiries.
“In the meantime, we’re urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to us or come forward if you have been a victim of the same scam.
“You can report it online or call 101, quoting crime reference 47260120921.”
