Lol Tolhurst co-founder of The Cure announces Brighton concert

Lol Tolhurst

Founding member of The Cure and acclaimed author – Lol Tolhurst – has announced a new headline show at the Quarters in Brighton on Wednesday 28th October.

Acclaimed author and one of the goth genre’s most prodigious sons Lol Tolhurst has announced a headline date on the South Coast this autumn. Following a run of dates with Chameleons, the founding member of The Cure will play a mix of material at the Quarters on 28th October. Tickets are on sale this Friday, 24th April at 10am and will be available HERE.

Lol Tolhurst, founding drummer of The Cure and a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, is a key figure in goth music. He met Robert Smith in childhood and co-founded The Cure in 1976, contributing to classic albums like ‘Three Imaginary Boys’, ‘Seventeen Seconds’, ‘Faith’, and ‘Pornography’ and ‘Disintegration’. Splitting from the band in 1989, he relocated to California, formed Levinhurst and later reunited with The Cure in 2011.

In 2016, he released his sensational memoir ‘Cured – The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys’ detailing his life and also toured worldwide with the band. In 2022, Tolhurst reunited with Budgie (Siouxsie and the Banshees) to launch the successful podcast ‘Curious Creatures’, exploring post-punk’s legacy. The duo, alongside producer Jacknife Lee, also released the 2023 album ‘Los Angeles’, featuring major guest artists such as The Edge (U2), James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse), Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), and more. That same year, Tolhurst published ‘GOTH: A History’, a deep dive into the genre’s roots and influence.

Lol’s 2026 headline date in Brighton follows a run of shows with Chameleons throughout October. While on the road with the cult band, Tolhurst will be playing ‘The Songs of The Cure’, which sees the founding band member performing early and seminal songs from The Cure’s catalogue in a sensational live show. These performances are a way for the founding member to revisit his extensive history with the band, which shaped the sound of their post-punk and goth-era music before his departure.

Tickets for Lol Tolhurst’s headline show in Brighton go on sale this Friday, 24th April at 10am.
