Four fire engines have been sent to tackle a blaze after a large shed caught alight just off the A22 this afternoon (Sunday 6 April).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that the fire, at Dodds Bottom, Nutley, close to the A22 High Street, just north of Uckfield, was reported shortly before 4.40pm.
The fire service said: “Firefighters from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are also at the scene, making a total of four fire engines mobilised to the incident.
“Crews are using breathing apparatus and main jets.
“A vehicle and cylinders are also involved in the fire.
“There are no reports of injuries.
“Please avoid the area and if you are local, keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.”
An update issued at 5.30pm said: “The incident is being scaled back to three fire engines.
“The fire has damaged a shed measuring approximately 10 metres by 5 metres, a car and trees.”
Another update was issued at 6.30pm, saying: The incident is being scaled down to two fire engines.
“Breathing apparatus is no longer being used.
“Firefighters are damping down the scene and monitoring a cylinder to ensure it cools.”
A further update at 7.20pm said: “The cylinder is now cool and crews are finishing ‘turning over’ and damping down to deal with any final hot spots.
“They are expected to leave the scene soon.”
