A suspected serial shoplifter has been charged and faces court, Sussex Police said.

The force said that Scott Vaughan had been charged after repeated thefts from a supermarket in Newhaven.

Sussex Police said: “Following reports that the Co-op in Fort Road, Newhaven, was being repeatedly targeted by a shoplifter between Sunday 17 March and Tuesday 26 March, a man was arrested on Thursday 25 July on suspicion of three counts of theft from a shop.

“On Friday 26 July, Scott Vaughan, 35, of Upper Valley Road, in Newhaven, was charged with the three offences and bailed from court with strict conditions pending his next court appearance on Friday 30 August.”

The officer investigating the case, PC Jocelyn Wilson said: “Your vigilance is crucial in helping us protect our neighbourhoods and so we thank those for reporting and encourage your continued reporting if you see anything suspicious or have concerns.

“You can make a report to police online by using our reporting form or by calling 101.

“In an emergency, always dial 999.”

Good to hear. It’s about time shop lifters get the message. Unfortunately shop lifters are everywhere and no one is safe from abuse of them. The retail staff, businesses and public all suffer from the shop lighting crimes.
