Sussex motorists warned of devastating impact of drink-driving in winter crackdown
With the annual Christmas drink driving campaign under way, Sussex Police have revealed some of the hilarious ways drivers have tried to evade the breathalyser test. Last year, Sussex police arrested 2,000 people for
Sussex Police said on Facebook: “We’ve heard some right-old tales over the years about ways to get around a breathalyser test. We thought we’d separate fact from fiction when it comes to drink driving.
“To the person who ran furiously on the spot to burn off the alcohol, you only exhausted yourself and looked silly.

Police have already arrested dozens  of suspected drink and drug drivers in December. Sussex Police said that so far officers had made 134 arrests across the area served by the force since the start of the month when the campaign began.

In the same period, about 40 crashes have been recorded, with drink or drug driving often a factor. Drivers can expect to be tested for drink and drugs at the scene of any crash.

The force said: “A significant number of drivers were stopped for erratic or sometimes dangerous driving owing to being intoxicated through alcohol or drugs.
