Police officer seriously injured by dangerous motorcyclist

A police officer suffered serious leg injuries as he tried to arrest a motorcyclist suspected of riding dangerously.

A man from Shoreham and a boy from Hove have been arrested and released on bail.

Sussex Police said this afternoon (Wednesday 26 August): “Two people have been arrested after a police officer was seriously injured in an incident in Shoreham.

“Police became aware of motorcycles being ridden dangerously in the area at around 5pm on Sunday (23 August).

“After being pursued to a petrol station, in Brighton Road, Shoreham, a motorcycle collided with an officer who had left his vehicle to apprehend him, leaving him with serious leg injuries.

“Despite being injured he went on to help arrest the rider and pillion passenger.

“Max Harvey, 21, of Buckingham Road, Shoreham, was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm (GBH), driving while disqualified and no insurance.

“(He) appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday (24 August). He was bailed with conditions to appear in the crown court on Tuesday 22 September.

“The pillion passenger, a 17-year-old boy, from Hove, was arrested for theft of a motorbike, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and possession with intent to supply cannabis. He has been bailed pending further inquiries.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or captured any mobile, dashcam or CCTV footage is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 908 of 23/08.”
