Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at an address in Durrington Lane, Durrington, yesterday.

Sussex Police said: “Officers responded to a report of concern for the welfare of a woman around 7.50pm on Thursday 14 May.

“Emergency services attended and sadly a 65-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A 37-year-old man, from Durrington, was arrested on suspicion of murder and assaulting a police officer. He remains in custody at this time.

“Inquiries are ongoing and it has been established that the victim and suspect were known to each other.”

Detective Inspector Amanda Zinyama, from the Major Crime Team, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the woman’s loved ones at this difficult time.

“We are in the early stages of a fast-moving investigation and officers are carrying out extensive inquiries to establish the full circumstances.

“While we understand this incident will cause concern locally, we believe it to be isolated, with no threat to the wider community, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area while inquiries are ongoing.”

Sussex Police added: “Anyone with information which could help the investigation is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Bucklow.”
