Lorry crashes into shop

A lorry has crashed into a shop in the early hours of this morning (Saturday 2 May).

The fire service said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at 3.32am on Saturday 2 May to reports of a large HGV lorry colliding with a shop on the A22 in Nutley.

“As of 4.40am, fire crews, including a technical rescue unit, are at the scene on the High Street, working with police and ambulance.

“The building consists of a shop and a flat.

“Everyone from the property is safe and no one is trapped in the vehicle.

“We have requested the attendance of UK Power Networks as power cables have been damaged.

“Please avoid the area.”

An update at 7am said: “We are shoring up the building and the HGV is being removed from the scene.

“One person has been handed into the care of the ambulance service with minor injuries.”

East Sussex County Council highways team is managing the road closure while the emergency services continue their work at the scene

In a further update at 9.20am, the fire service said: “We left the scene around 8.50am, with East Sussex highways continuing to manage the roads.”
