A man has pleaded guilty today to raping a woman in a car park last month.

Judge Christine Laing, the honorary recorder of Brighton and Hove, warned Suleman Mukaish that he would face a long prison sentence and remanded him in custody until Monday 15 June.

Sussex Police said: “A man faces sentencing after he admitted the rape of a woman in a car park in Worthing.

“Suleman Mukaish, 27, of Cambridge Road, Worthing, was charged with the offence relating to an incident on Wednesday 11 March.

“He appeared before Lewes Crown Court today (Monday 13 April) where he admitted the charge.

“The victim, a woman in her twenties, has received support from specially trained officers.”

After the hearing, Detective Superintendent Andrew Harbour said: “This has been a complex and meticulous investigation and officers have been determined to get justice for the victim.

“I would like to commend the victim for her bravery throughout the investigation and also thank the witnesses and members of the public who both assisted her and came forward with crucial information for our investigation.

“This has enabled us to present strong evidence in court and we are pleased that the defendant has entered a guilty plea to the charge in light of the evidence we have gathered.

“Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for Sussex Police.

“We remain committed to improving our service to women and girls in Sussex, working with our partners to prevent crime in the first place, provide support to victims and catch perpetrators.”
