A wanted man has been arrested after a public appeal for help from Sussex Police.
The force said on Tuesday 3 March: “We’re searching for Stephen May, 36, who is wanted on recall to prison for breaching the terms of his licence.
“He is known to frequent the Brighton, Shoreham, Horsham, Worthing, Gatwick and Crawley areas.
“Anyone who sees him is asked to not approach him and call 999 immediately, quoting crime reference 47260041572.”
He was jailed for a total of 21 months at Lewes Crown Court last July by Judge Christine Laing, the honorary recorder of Brighton and Hove.
May had pleaded guilty to stealing a Boursin cheese from the Co-op, in High Street, Shoreham, and to a racially aggravated assault at the start of last year.
He also admitted affray and having a knife in Railway Approach, Worthing, shortly before Christmas 2024.

After he was detained, Sussex Police said: “We can confirm that previously wanted Stephen May, has been arrested.
“It follows a public appeal to locate the 36-year-old who was wanted on recall to prison for breaching the terms of his licence.
“Thank you for sharing the appeal.”
