Firefighters took about an hour to put out a fire that started in a bin store yesterday (Thursday 4 December).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said yesterday: “We were called at 2.50pm on Thursday 4 December to reports of an outdoor bin store alight with smoke affecting the surrounding buildings in Western Road, Bexhill.
“Four fire engines from Bexhill, Hastings Bohemia Road and The Ridge are currently in attendance.
“Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area and local residents to keep windows and doors closed.”
In an update, the fire service later said: “The fire was out as of 3.52pm.
“As of 4.16pm, the incident is being scaled down to two fire engines.
“Thermal imaging cameras are being used to check for any hot spots.”
In a further update, the fire service added: “The stop message came in at 5.28pm.
“Firefighters used six breathing apparatus and one hose-reel jet to put the fire out.
“There were no casualties reported and the fire is being treated as accidental.”
