An elderly woman has died in a fire at her home.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire engines to Sea Lane, Goring, after the alarm was raised shortly before 4am yesterday (Thursday 3 July).
The woman, who was in her nineties, was the only person living at the property, according to Sussex Police.
She died at the scene, the force said, and the woman’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
Sussex Police said that they were working with the fire service to investigate the cause of the fire.
It was not being treated as suspicious.
The fire service said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two high-pressure hose reels, one covering jet and a safety jet to bring the fire under control.
“Residents living near by were urged to keep their doors and windows closed due to the amount of smoke.
“We also advised avoiding the area to allow crews to work safely.”
The fire service added that crews had left by 7.40am.
