A key road has been closed after a car hit a pedestrian – believed to be a young girl – shortly before the evening rush-hour today (Monday 30 June).
The C7 Lewes Road, just north of the A259 North Way to Valley Road, was shut in both directions after the crash.

Sussex Police said: “Police are currently responding to a collision between a car and pedestrian in Lewes Road, Newhaven.
“The incident occurred at around 4.30pm.
“A section of the road is currently closed and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes in the meantime.
“Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured any video footage is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting serial 1042 of 30/06.”
An air ambulance was sent to the scene.
Tailbacks were reported as the evening rush hour got under way.
