Seven fire engines were sent to tackle a blaze in a block of flats in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 12 June).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that everyone was safely accounted for as firefighters fought the blaze in The Cheviots, Hastings.
The fire service sent seven fire engines including an aerial ladder platform just after 2.30am and the blaze was out just under an hour later.
Firefighters were sent from The Ridge and Bohemia Road, in Hastings, as well as Bexhill, Battle and Broad Oak.
The fire service said: “ East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called on Thursday 12 June at 2.33am to reports of a fire at a residential building at The Cheviots, Hastings.
“Six fire engines and the aerial ladder platform were in attendance with crews from The Ridge, Bohemia Road, Broad Oak, Bexhill and Battle.
“Local residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed.
“Firefighters used eight breathing apparatus, three hose-reel jets and one main jet to extinguish the fire.
“As of 3.19am the fire was out and all persons accounted for, with the incident being scaled down to three fire engines.
“The associated housing provider is helping look after residents affected by the fire.
“The local authority also attended to provide support.
“South East Coast Ambulance Service and Sussex Police were also in attendance.
“The cause of the fire is being investigated.”
