A man has been charged with attacking three police officers and two counts of strangling.
All three officers were taken to hospital for treatment. Two have been discharged while one requires further treatment.
Sussex Police said this morning (Sunday 1 June): “Police have charged a man with multiple violent offences after three police officers were assaulted in Crawley on Saturday (31 May).
“Officers attended a property in Gossops Drive, Gossops Green, at around 2.30pm to arrest a suspect in an ongoing investigation.
“The suspect resisted arrest and assaulted three officers, causing significant injuries, before fleeing into a nearby property.
“Mohammed Rasool, 43, of Gossops Drive in Crawley, was arrested at the scene and has now been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, and two counts each of actual bodily harm and non-fatal strangulation.
“He has been remanded in custody to appear before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday (2 June 2025).
“All three officers required hospital treatment.”
Superintendent Steve Biglands said: “My colleagues put their own safety at risk to protect the people of Sussex, and they will continue to receive the full support of Sussex Police.
“I would like to commend them for their bravery and acknowledge the swift actions of their colleagues who responded to the incident.
“Police officers are human beings and being assaulted while they carry out their duties should never be seen as ‘part of the job’.
“It is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
