An empty supermarket in Burgess Hill is set to reprise its role as a morgue in a hit ITV drama this summer.
Sandridge Media, which acts as an agent for ITV, has applied to use the empty Lidl in The Martlets shopping centre for up to 28 days filming starting in May and ending in August.
On each day, filming would start at 9am and end by 6pm.
The unit was previously used as a location for the filming of Grace, the Brighton-set detective drama based on Peter James’s novels.
The Lidl building has been leased to Sandridge Media for several years. Last week, ITV announced Grace had been renewed for its sixth series, with returning characters including mortuary technician Cleo Morey, played by Zoe Tapper.
The application says: “To carry out temporary filming within the Lidl and Heights units. Unit 38 & 49 The Martlets Shopping Centre.
“Total of 28 days filming within a 12 month period. applicable dates cover 40 days to allow for movements in schedules, only 28 days filming will be carried out.
“Buildings are currently vacant awaiting demo, this is an interim use until redevelopment is brought forward.”
One person, describing themselves as a customer, has objected to the plans, saying: Enhance our town don’t commit to keeping the town looking awful enough to carry on being chosen for scenes in a thriller series.
“This shows no regard for the people living in Burgess Hill paying taxes and receiving v little in return!”
