Man suffers serious injuries in A259 hit and run

A driver from Sussex has died after a crash on the A31 in Dorset last night (Saturday 22 February).

Dorset Police said: “Officers investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Ferndown are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

“Dorset Police received a report at around 8.45pm on Saturday 22 February 2025 of a collision on the Ameysford Roundabout along the A31 in Ferndown involving a white Peugeot 308.

“The driver of the vehicle – a 43-year-old man from West Sussex – was sadly pronounced dead after sustaining serious injuries.

“His family have been informed.

“Road closures from multiple directions in the area remain in place while officers carry out a detailed examination of the scene.”

Sergeant Richard Stroud, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the man at this difficult time and we have specially trained officers supporting them.

“This incident occurred on a very busy stretch of the A31 and I understand there were a number of motorists in the area who may have seen what happened.

“I would ask any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“Also, I am keen to hear from anyone who may have captured any dashcam footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience with the road closures while we investigate the scene.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, by emailing scit@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55250026244.

Alternatively, the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555111.
