New double yellow lines are to be painted in a handful of streets across Hastings and St Leonards.
East Sussex County Council’s Planning Committee yesterday rubber stamped a series new parking restrictions, which also included extending times of a paid parking bay and add and remove a number of disabled bays.
The updates come as part of the council’s annual review of parking in the area.
New yellow lines will be painted at: Chambers Crescent; the junction of Chapel Park Road and St John’s Road; Holmesdale Gardens; and Fern Road. Existing double-yellow lines in West Hill Road and Spring Street will be extended.
New lines at the junction of Fredrick Road and Coghurst Road will also be put in, but councillors reduced the proposed length by six metres to allow for an extra parking space.
A paid parking bay in Cornwallis Gardens will now be in operation from 9am to 8pm, extending it two hours in the evening.
New disabled bays will be installed in Alfred Street and Newgate Road while an existing bay will be removed from Linton Road; an existing bay in Burry Road will be formalised.
A loading area in Denmark Place will be split it into both blue badge parking and a section of motorcycle-only parking.
A proposal to remove a blue badge bay from Blackman Avenue was not agreed by the committee.
The committee heard how Blackman Avenue currently has two blue badge bays, which officers said were rarely both in use. While officers had recommended that one of the bays be removed as a result, the committee opted not to move ahead with the proposal as a result of objections from a resident and ward councillor Phil Scott.
