The M23 has reopened after a crash involving four vehicles this morning (Wednesday 19 February).
Three people were taken to hospital after the crash which happened on the southbound side of the motorway between junctions 9 and 10 at about 10.30am.
South East Coast Ambulance Service said that four people were assessed at the scene and three were taken to East Surrey Hospital, in Redhill, for further checks and treatment.
At one point, the queue of traffic stretched back about two miles, with drivers delayed by 40 to 50 minutes and some trapped by the closure for a while.
Diversions were put in place and Sussex Police earlier asked people to avoid the area, saying that the motorway was expected to remain closed for several hours.
Between 1.45pm and 2pm, the force said: “We are pleased to say the M23 has now fully reopened, following the collision this morning (Wednesday 19 February).
“Thank you for your patience while we dealt with the incident.”
