A removals man has been left with a court bill of almost £3,000 after ignoring an order to
move his van.
Shaun Manser, 60, parked the van in Seabeach Lane for several years, where it sat rusting and attracting fly-tipping.
After neighbours complained, Eastbourne Borough Council issued him with a community protection notice telling him to move the van by 6 September 2024.
The van stayed where it was – and so the council took him to court.
At Hastings Magistrates’ Court on January 16, Manser admitted breaching the notice and he was fined along with being ordered to pay the full prosecution costs and a victim surcharge of £600.
With costs, his total court bill came to £2,842.
Additionally, the court made a Remedial Order, mandating the removal of the vehicle within 28 days.
Councillor Colin Swansborough, Cabinet Member for Community Spaces, said: “This successful prosecution sends a strong message that we will not tolerate environmental neglect.
“I commend our Neighbourhood First team for their diligence in pursuing this case and I look forward to the permanent removal of this eyesore van for the benefit of neighbours and the wider local community.”
Mansell, of Seaside, Eastbourne, was previously fined £1,000 for breaching another notice requiring him to clear dumped rubbish in the same road in 2019.
Then, there was so much rubbish in the road, it was blocking vehicle access.
