The A259 through Hooe is closed this afternoon as fire crews work to free people trapped in two cars which crashed.

Emergency services were called just before 11.30am to a crash on Marsh Road. Drivers are being asked to avoid the road, which police say is likely to remain closed until at least the early evening.

Five fire engines and the Technical Rescue Until were sent to the scene, along with police and ambulance.

Crews worked to extricate casualties from the two vehicles involved. By 1pm, three people had been rescued and were in the care of paramedics.

Sussex Police said: “We are currently responding to a serious two-vehicle collision on the A259 at Hooe.

“The road has been closed in both directions between Pevensey Roundabout and Little Common Roundabout as emergency services work at the scene, and is likely to remain closed until at least the early evening.

“We would advise motorists to seek alternative routes in the meantime. Thank you for your understanding.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured any relevant footage is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk quoting serial 442 of 07/11.”
