A man was taken to hospital after he was attacked during an aggravated burglary at the weekend, Sussex Police said.
The victim and his attackers knew each other and two men have since been arrested.
The force said: “Police were called to Southdown Close in Newhaven at around 9pm on Saturday (28 September) to reports of a man and a woman having been assaulted inside a property.
“Officers attended and the pair reported having been assaulted by two men who were known to them who had since left the scene.
“The male victim was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
“Following further inquiries, a 51-year-old man, from Newhaven, and a 42-year-old man, from Seaford, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
“They have been bailed, pending further inquiries.
