Four flats were damaged after a fire started in a wheelie bin yesterday (Friday 20 September).
The fire service said yesterday: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue was contacted at 2.54pm today (Friday 20 September) to reports of a fire at a home in Coronation Gardens, in Battle.
“As of 3.10pm four fire engines and three officers had been sent to the scene.
“The fire is affecting the ground floor and first floor of the building.
“There are no reports of injuries.
“Please avoid the area while crews work.”
At 3.30pm the fire service issued an update, saying: “Crews on scene have confirmed this is a fire affecting four flats – not a house as previously reported.
“One person has been treated for smoke inhalation.
“Breathing apparatus and hose reel are being used to tackle the fire.
“Three fire engines remain on scene.”
And a final update at 4.15pm said: “One fire engine remains on scene.
“The fire, which is now out, is thought to have started accidentally in a wheelie bin.”
