Man appears in court over Crawley fire

A man was due to appear in court today (Monday 16 September) charged with arson with intent to endanger life after a dog died in a house fire in Crawley.

Sussex Police and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called out to Creasys Drive, in Broadfield, on Saturday afternoon (14 September).

No one was injured although a dog died in the fire.

Adrian West, 60, of no fixed address, was arrested and has since been charged with several offences.

– Arson with intent to endanger life on Saturday 14 September
– Assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Wednesday 22 May
– Intentional strangulation on Wednesday 22 May
– Assault occasioning actual bodily harm between Monday 1 January and Saturday 14 September
– Assault by beating between Monday 1 January and Saturday 14 September
– Criminal damage on Friday 13 September

Sussex Police said that he remained in custody, awaiting his appearance at Crawley Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 16 September).

The force added that there would be a heightened police presence in the area in the meantime as officers continued their inquiries and to provide community reassurance.

Anyone with any information about the incident, including any mobile, dashcam or CCTV footage, is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 815 of 14/09.
