Durrington’s Bridge House could be converted into more than 100 homes, according to recently submitted plans.
The plans for the five storey West Sussex County Council building in Barrington Road, are seeking a change of use from the existing offices to 107 flats – 71 one-bed and 36 two-bed.
The plans also include 111 car parking spaces and 116 cycle storage spaces, with the new cycle and bin storage to be dealt with in another application.
The change of use is covered under permitted development rights, but due to the scale of the plans the application was submitted to Worthing Borough Council to see if prior approval by the council was required.
Plans were submitted by property consultants Montagu Evans on behalf of real estate company DBH Worthing Limited, and were submitted beside a separate application for external alterations to the office block for its planned conversion to flats.
The other application would see the roof removed over the atrium in Bridge House and windows installed along its exterior to ‘facilitate’ the change of use, according to the plans.
A decision on the alterations will be due from the council by September 26, with no assigned deadline for the council for the change of use plans.
Architects on behalf of the developer, Brooks Murray, said in the plans : “All 107 flats will provide good quality living conditions for all future residents – the layouts have been designed to use the internal space as efficiently as possible.”
Durrington Bridge House neighbours the former HMRC site, for which permission was granted by the council, in 2022, for 287 homes to be built by developer Bellway Homes.
