Chichester District Council plans to hand over more than £312,000 for improvements to the car park at Tangmere Village Centre.
During a meeting of the cabinet on Tuesday (September 3), it was recommended that the Section 106 money be released to Tangmere Parish Council for the work.
A final decision will be made at the next meeting of the full council.
Section 106 money is made up of contributions from developers who have been allowed to build in the area.
In this case, it was allocated for improvements to community facilities and came from developments east of Meadow Way and north-east of the Military Aviation Museum.
Planning permission was received in 2023 for sub-base and resurfacing work at the car park and the parish council has chosen its preferred contractor to do the job.
David Betts, cabinet member for housing and revenues and benefits, said it was ‘easy to trip up’ in the car park due to the state of its pea gravel and aggregate surface.
He added: “Tangmere is growing and this contribution to a valuable village asset can only be positive.”
As well as the resurfacing, the work will include the installation of height barriers, speed-bumps, kerbing, landscaping and lighting, as well as demarcation and lining.
A report to the cabinet said it was suggested that the work start a minimum of four weeks after the money was approved.
It is expected to take 12 weeks to complete.
