A fire has damaged crops over more than an acre of land close to a popular zoo and tourist attraction, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.
The fire service said: “At 8.24pm on Tuesday 14 July, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire in standing crop, near the Drusillas roundabout, in Berwick.
“Crews from Eastbourne and Seaford attended the fire.
“Firefighters used three hose-reel jets and three main jets to extinguish the fire. Crews left the scene at 9.38pm.”
The damage covered an area between 5,000 square metres and 10,000 square metres (1 hectare) – or nearly two and a half acres.
The fire service said: “There were no reports of casualties.
“An ongoing investigation is being conducted by Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue to establish the cause of the fire.
