A 21-year-old man has been arrested after an 89-year-old woman died in a crash this afternoon (Tuesday 12 May), Sussex Police said.
The force said: “Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a fatal collision in Worthing.
“Emergency services responded to the collision involving two vehicles, a BMW and a silver Ford Focus Estate, at about 1.35pm on Tuesday 12 May.
“Sadly, an 89-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the BMW, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“Her next of kin were informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“The driver of the Ford Focus, a 21-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody at this time.
“The A2032 was closed in both directions from the junction with Lindum Road and the roundabout with The Boulevard and Durrington Lane while emergency services responded to the incident.
“Witnesses or anyone with information, such as dashcam, CCTV, mobile phone or doorbell footage, is asked to report it to Sussex Police online or email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk and quote Operation Westfield.”
