A man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 17-year-old boy after a security camera picture was published by the media as detectives tried to work out the suspect’s identity.
Sussex Police said: “A man has been arrested by police investigating the rape of a teenage boy in St Leonards.
“Police received a report that a 17-year-old boy had been raped at an address in the area on Friday 30 January at around midnight.
“The 38-year-old man was arrested on Monday 2 February on suspicion of rape and remains in custody at this time.
“Detective Inspector Carol Shoesmith said: “This is an evolving investigation and we have specialist officers in contact with the victim to ensure he is fully supported throughout.
“From the moment this was reported to us on Friday morning, we have conducted multiple inquiries in the St Leonards area to identify the suspect and arrest him.
“We are not seeking anyone else in connection to the incident at this time.
“We would like to thank those who shared our appeals and provided any information which led to this arrest.
“And we urge those with information to continue reporting which could be crucial to the investigation.
