Sussex Police thank public after protests pass off without incident

A man has been charged and remanded by a court after a firearms raid last Thursday (15 January).

Sussex Police said that officers searched an address in the Three Bridges area of Crawley in the early hours raid.

The force said: “Officers executed a warrant at a residential address in the early hours of Thursday 15 January as part of an investigation into firearms-related offences.

“During the search, suspected firearms components and ammunition were safely seized from the property.

“Emil Kavaldzhiev, 56, from Farm Close, Crawley, appeared at Crawley Magistrates Court on Monday 19 January.

“He has been charged with several firearms-related offences including manufacture or sale of a firearm by a person who is not a registered dealer, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of offensive weapons in a private place.

“He has been bailed with conditions to appear before Lewes Crown Court on Monday 16 February.

“Seven other people – four men, aged 33, 26, 21 and 18, and three women, aged 55, 30 and 18 – who were arrested at the address have been released on bail while inquiries continue.”

Superintendent Imran Asghar said: “Officers have completed a safe and successful warrant at an address in Three Bridges, which has resulted in a man being charged.

“I want to reassure residents that there is not believed to be any ongoing risk to the wider community, and that the weapons recovered have been safely removed.

“We are committed to keeping our communities safe and will take robust action where firearms-related offences are identified.

“We would continue to encourage anyone with concerns or information to report suspicious activity to us.”
